The Perfect Green Smoothie Recipe

This green smoothie is energy pact and satisfying! It’s filled with minerals, phytonutrients, antioxidants, and powerful proteins. One a day keeps the doctor away!

Fruits and vegetables are the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet, and dark green leafy vegetables lead the pack. Each of the top five so-called “powerhouse fruits and vegetables” were greens.

And so, if we blend them up in a smoothie (or soup or sauce), we’re taking the food with the most nutrition and breaking all the cell walls to dump that nutrition into our bloodstream. Chewing is good, but blending is better, in terms of digestive efficiency and absorbing nutrients.

Chew Your Smoothie

smoothie-1724713_1280The most important thing you want to do when drinking your smoothie is to take it and chew it.  You may be thinking to yourself, Hannah why would I chew my smoothie? The reason I made it into a smoothie is so I don’t have to chew it.

Well not entirely. The reason to make a smoothie is not only the fact that it’s fast and convenient. But drinking rather than sipping on a smoothie is easier to digest. If you guzzle your smoothie down without taking the time to chew, you’re not producing any saliva.

Chewing or the action of chewing produces saliva in your mouth. The saliva produced helps to break down your food and lubricate them before they go into your upper stomach.

When saliva isn’t added to the mix, you’re body can’t properly breakdown the starches and sugars. Here’s the secret or a little tip, chew until the flavor changes.

Saliva + food = good digestion


GREEN SMOOTHIE RECIPE:

2-3 banana
A large fistful of kale or romaine or spinach
1 young Thai Coconut water (or purified water)

Optional:
** decrease the amount of bananas to add your favorite berries.
** to taste, sprinkle of cinnamon or some cacao (optional)

Prepare all the ingredients to be put into your high-speed blender, and blend!

  1. Chewing food is natural and starts the digestive process.
  2. Chew your smoothies with each sip versus drinking them down like water.
  3. I also recommend rinsing your mouth out with water after to clean the mouth, and then floss and brush shortly after each meal.

All you need to become a smoothie superstar are nourishing, delicious recipes, some blending smarts and a quality machine.

When I started whipping up green smoothies, I made some pretty gnarly concoctions, not the kind of drink you’d want to throw back on a regular basis.
